Summary: 
Canadian Adventure Charters is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Marine Technical Superintendent to oversee the technical management and operational efficiency of our fleet of Ice-classed Expedition & Research Vessels. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of assigned vessels in compliance with all relevant regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
Responsibilities: 
Technical Management: 
    ∙Oversee and manage all technical aspects of assigned vessels, including hull, machinery, electrical, automation, and safety systems. 
    ∙Plan, coordinate, and supervise dry-docking, repairs, maintenance, and modifications, ensuring work is completed to the required standards, within budget, and on schedule. 
    ∙Develop and implement planned maintenance schedules and ensure their effective execution. 
    ∙Monitor vessel performance, analyze technical reports, and identify areas for improvement in efficiency and reliability. 
    ∙Ensure compliance with flag state regulations, class society rules, port state control requirements, and other relevant international and national regulations. 
    ∙Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions. 
    ∙Stay abreast of new technologies, regulations, and industry best practices. 
Budget and Cost Control: 
   ∙Develop and manage the annual technical budget for assigned vessels. 
   ∙Monitor and control expenditure on repairs, maintenance, stores, and spares. 
   ∙Negotiate with suppliers and service providers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure quality of service. 
   ∙Analyze and report on vessel operating costs and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
Crew Support and Communication: 
   ∙Provide technical support and guidance to vessel Masters and Chief Engineers. 
   ∙Liaise effectively with shipboard personnel, shore-based departments (e.g., crewing, purchasing, operations), and external stakeholders. 
   ∙Conduct regular vessel visits for inspections, audits, and to foster positive relationships with the crew. 
   ∙Participate in the recruitment and performance evaluation of senior technical officers. 
Safety and Environmental Compliance: 
    ∙Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to the company’s Safety Management System (SMS). 
    ∙Monitor vessel compliance with environmental regulations and implement best practices for environmental protection. 
    ∙Participate in safety audits and inspections, and ensure timely closure of any identified deficiencies. 
Project Management: 
    ∙Manage specific technical projects, such as vessel upgrades, retrofits, or new building supervision (as required). 
    ∙Develop project plans, monitor progress, and ensure projects are completed within the scope, budget, and timeline. 
Qualifications and Experience: 
   ∙Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field. 
   ∙Hold a Chief Engineer’s Certificate of Competency (Unlimited) or equivalent seagoing experience in a senior technical role. 
   ∙Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Superintendent or a senior technical officer on relevant vessel types. 
   ∙Thorough knowledge of ship construction, machinery, electrical systems, automation, and safety equipment. 
   ∙Experience with Vessel Refits and Conversions. 
   ∙Familiarity with relevant international and national maritime regulations, class society rules, and port state control requirements. 
   ∙Proven experience in budget management and cost control. 
   ∙Strong project management skills. 
   ∙Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. 
   ∙Ability to analyze technical data and make sound decisions. 
   ∙Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (or similar) and relevant technical software. 
   ∙Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
   ∙Experience with Ice-Classed Expedition/Research vessels is advantageous.
   ∙Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis. 
   ∙Knowledge of planned maintenance systems (PMS). 
   ∙Auditor certification (e.g., ISM, ISO).
