Marine Archaeologist

The Marine Archaeologist of Canadian Adventure Charters Ltd and is responsible for creating and implementing a clear sense of direction for the Corporation and its related businesses by defining, communicating, and overseeing the Corporation’s mission, goals, operating principles, and strategic actions.

To development and implementation of research designs, work plans, schedules, fieldwork, and analysis and reporting assisted by a team of qualified project managers, archaeologists, researchers, and other scientists. Responsibilities of the Archaeologist may include management and supervision of archaeological projects, including survey, site evaluation, and site mitigation and other duties as assigned. Additional duties would depend on the experience level of the applicant, but may include marketing, proposal development, client coordination, and regulatory consultation.

To develop CAC,s  luxury explore yacht and submarine charter platform, create and build our brand/product and website, online booking and shopping center. To promote Newfoundland & Labrador and The Northwest Passage, at charter destinations within CAC,s selected charter operations loop in to Newfoundland, to Labrador, Northwest Passage, Spain, Canary Islands, Bahamas and Fort Lauderdale. To build a charter yachting destination industry in Newfoundland & Labrador, has our yachting hub for Newfoundland & Labrador & Northwest Passage Charter Adventures, Submarine Dive Expeditions, Exploration, Treasure & Shipwreck Recovery, Underwater Film/ Documentary Entertainment- Climate Change/Global Warming Research,

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is a senior management position in the Corporation, with responsibility for:

The Archaeologist holds a successful portfolio building and managing public trading corporations, including private and non-profit for a minimum of 15 years, working with Investor Relations (IR) Public Relations (PR) Stakeholders, networking and building partner relations with 500 Fortune Companies. Managing Archaeological Projects from $20M-$100M annual portfolio’s

Duties of the Marine Archaeologist will include development and implementation of research designs, work plans, schedules, fieldwork, and analysis and reporting assisted by a team of qualified project managers, archaeologists, researchers, and other scientists. Responsibilities of the Archaeologist may include management and supervision of archaeological projects, including researching shipwrecks and create a database, underwater surveys, site evaluation, and site mitigation and other duties as assigned. Additional duties would depend on the experience level of the applicant, but may include marketing, proposal development, client coordination, film production, working with partnering institutions, universities, maritime lawyer and regulatory consultation.

Applicants must have:

Master’s Degree in Cultural Resources Management, Archaeology, Maritime Archaeology, Anthropology or closely related field

10+ years of progressive Marine Archaeology or Cultural Resource Management experience cumulating to 10+ year of supervising archaeology marine projects, with preference given to archaeological projects in the Artic- Antarctica & Med Atlantic Oceans.

Knowledge of basic archaeological marine field work, lost sunken treasures, shipwreck’s and laboratory procedures, to include mapping, photography, and collection and handling of artifacts and ensure that all work and data collected are accurate, organized, and of high quality.

Proven ability to maintain favourable crew relations and contribute in a team setting.

Excellent management and communication (oral and written) skills.

A clear understanding of National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria and evaluation of cultural resources and the laws and regulations governing them.

Self-motivated, solutions-based approaches to client undertakings and management and partake in on- the- job staff training.

Special consideration will be given to those with experience with Provincial- Canadian- European, Bahamas and USA  and federal agency and tribal consultation, and an excellent reputation within the professional, regulatory, and/or affected communities.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment with effective time management, multitasking, communication, and organizational skills.

Adhere to safe practices in a field and office setting and participate in annual trainings and refreshers.

Willingness to participate in professional and public education initiatives in both internal and external medias.

Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Availability to travel and possession of a valid drivers’ license.

The Marine Archaeologist have:

Strong executive experience transforming finance operations to meet the reporting requirements of leading private investors and/or public markets.

A track record of successful M&A transactions and integrations.

The executive leadership skills required to excite and align our team around our mission and to drive high performance in revenue growth and margin expansion.

Experience building marine operations, private super luxury yacht, adventure, expedition, exploration markets/industries, climate change-global warming research modern finance and accounting organization

The development of annual works plans and related capital and operating budgets, development of operational policies and procedures.

The day-to-day operations management, human resources recruitment, budget and financial oversight and monitoring.

Conducts market analysis and opportunity identification in relation to the mission of the Corporation.

Overall management of staff and management of the Corporation.

Overall planning, design and implementation of projects and programs within the mandate for the Corporation.

Communications and marketing for the purpose of business development; and

Must actively participate in the compliance of the Corporation’s corporate governance policies and procedures.

Governance, Strategy, Development, Planning and Reporting

Structuring CAC to a publicly trading corporation, while working with our partners

Formulates and updates the annual business plan and strategies, policies and procedures for the Corporation and brings these to the Board for input, consideration, decision, and ratification.

Ensures strategic and annual planning processes and procedures are undertaken and effective budget and plans are prepared for Board approval.

Seeks out and develops business opportunities and presents such opportunities to the Board for consideration and decision.

Oversees fiscal activities, ensuring that all financial and non-financial reporting requirements are met on a timely and accurate basis, and

Ensures that reports to the Board are always transparent and provided on a timely basis.

Ensures adherence to the legal guidelines and in -house policies to maintain legality and business ethics.

Community & Relationship Management

Initiates, develops, and maintains effective strategic relationships and networks with key stakeholders including luxury charter companies/brokers/agents, government agencies, business owners, travel agents, customers, potential customers, partners and suppliers and research institutes

Examines and recommends partnerships with private and public entities in support of projects that will assist the Corporation in fulfilling its mission and objectives; and

Promotes and advocates the profile of the Corporation.

Support community events including Future Emergency Preparedness Planning/Management

Builds and maintains a high-performance culture through effective performance management, communication and coaching of staff,

Recruits appropriately skilled staff to all positions and establishes appropriate remuneration levels and performance-based conditions for each employee.

Establishes performance management plans with charter companies/brokers/agents, industry clients, employees and undertakes performance reviews, recommends salary and benefit changes, promotions, and dismissals as appropriate within the authority of the position; and

Recruits and appoints with the approval of the Board, where necessary.

Communication:

Fluent speaking language, creative writing and business management skills in English and 3 of the following: French, German, Polish, Spanish, Mandarin, Norwegian, Arabic and Russian are very important for translation to international charter clients and guess our charter travel adventure product, branding, business development, networking building relations with investor and stakeholders

Financial Management

Prepares and presents operating project budgets to the Board for approval complete with all supporting background information and documentation; and

Establishes financial controls in relation to undertaking and monitoring the activities of the Corporation against the approved budget and provides monthly (or more frequently, as necessary) reports to the Board on the performance of the Corporation against the approved project budgets.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

The Marine Archaeologist will have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. There may be some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. The Archaeologist may be required to travel and may need to work extended or flexible hours as required. MUST NOT GET SEA SICK OR AIR SICK

Environmental Conditions

The Marine Archaeologist may have to manage a number of projects sites at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the demands of competing priorities.

Sensory Demands

Sensory demands include use of the computer, which may cause eyestrain and occasional headaches. The Archaeologist may find the environment to be busy, high sea’s, cold and hot climate temperatures, areas with bears and wild animals, flies mosquitoes, jelly fish, noisy and will need excellent organizational and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.

Mental Demands

The Marine Archaeologist manages a variety of tasks and deadlines and may find the demands to be stressful.

Travel

The Marine Archaeologist will be required to travel when needed on board of CAC,s luxury exploration yacht, on tenders, floatplane, heli, underwater submarine dives. Travel is expected as part of conducting cultural treasure & shipwreck resources marine fieldwork, but, on average, approximately 60 percent of the year would be spent in a local office or at a local project. In the marine field, applicants may need to work out of town for extended periods, collect data in extreme climate conditions, and must work well in teams at remote locations. The archaeological lab will be located at our headquarters at Cat Bay, Bonvista Bay, Newfoundland and preference will be given to individuals who can show experience or willingness to incorporate the identification and analysis of both historic and prehistoric materials being processed there together with other work duties.

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE

Dependent upon degree, certificates, education, experience and track record, articles reports and books written.1
