Rick Langrehr is an explorer, writer, and documentary host whose work blends real-world expeditions with cross-cultural storytelling. His career has brought him to the remote corners of the world, across Middle Eastern deserts, the Himalayas, Central American jungles, and the distant islands of South East Asia. Each project aims to convey the history, customs, and spirit of local communities while offering an authentic, immersive account of the journey.

His book Libertalia: Stealing Equality chronicles his on-the-ground expedition across Madagascar to investigate early pirate settlements and the legendary lost city of Libertalia. Through that journey, Rick documented the shared history between European renegades and the Indigenous Malagasy people who helped create new settlements and enduring traditions. The project stands as a tribute to exploration, cultural collaboration, and the Indigenous voices that preserve these stories today.

As a documentary host and travel writer, Rick has spent years conducting historical and cultural fieldwork around the globe. His work is driven by a passion for world cultures and the recovery of histories that have been overlooked, obscured, or forgotten. These insights inform his contributions to magazines, research teams, and documentary projects.

His commitment to field documentation led to his invitation to The Explorer’s Club, recognizing his contributions to on-site research and global storytelling. Rick’s background includes work supporting televised historical investigations for networks such as The History Channel, as well as writing features that highlight the complexity and beauty of under-documented places.

Whether interviewing local elders in remote villages or tracing forgotten routes across the map, he approaches each project with curiosity, respect, and a deep commitment to cultural understanding. As Global Ambassador for Canadian Adventure Charters, Rick draws on his expedition experience, writing expertise, and on-camera communication
to help bring CAC’s mission to a wider audience. His role supports the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship, Indigenous collaboration, maritime discovery, shipwreck recovery, and public education initiatives. Through storytelling, field presence, and community engagement, Rick works to celebrate the people, landscapes, and histories
that define Earth’s last frontiers
